"Unfortunately most management is located in Finland and don't want to hear about what is going wrong. Not really interested in new ideas. Everything has to be done according to established processes and even though they say quality is #1, it's not. There is little feedback, reason is "it's the Finish way". Not a great way to run a company."

"Mediocrity is encouraged. If you want tools to succeed you basically have to create them yourself. Sales rules the company particularly quarterly numbers so any policies or procedures are ignored to make a few dollars, which in turn creates confusion on job roles and what you are supposed to do. Very top line focused with no in depth analysis whatsoever. They are now using terms like 'tiger teams' and 'disruptive' - welcome to the '90s. Lots of time spent managing up as capabilities dwindle as you reach the top. You are not incentivized to do well because you will not be rewarded any differently than your under achieving colleagues."

"Management and human resources provides speciial treatment to specific personel. Very poor salary for my education and skill set which is one of the reasons i left. Company states they provide a year bonus but it's not a bouns. It's a employer contirbution disguised as a bonus that you don't get to keep when you leave unless your vested for 6 years. This is a deceptive and dishonest payroll practice by the company. I would strongly advise not working for this company."

"This is clearly a Finnish company with Finnish leaders and culture. Forget about advancement from any of the US office locations. Like so many companies, the leaders are hypocrites when it comes to the stated corporate values like "fair play" and "anti-corruption". They will gladly forgo any values in exchange for money on the table. The business is fundamentally flawed and run by people who do not understand the global nature of business."


"Expect to be improperly trained then blamed for resulting problems. Management is secretive, poorly trained; hang around long enough and you could be a manager. No development opportunities. No recognition for hard work. Incredibly slow moving. Not interested in your ideas. Treat you like a non-human number. "Vaisala values" seem to only apply to low level employees every other decision is profit driven. Have to count on management for bonuses aka don't usually get a bonus."

"Annual reorganization to missing revenue targets. Annual employee purge in response to not meeting full revenue targets. Completly focused on top line numbers. Sales dominates the company so any orderly attempt to invoke process goes out the window at the end of each quarter. More oritented to indidivual sensor technology than integrated systems for customers - to the expense of systems brouhgt into the company via acquisition."

"To Vaisala management, the HR manager did not read my cover letter for the Giant Leap Programme and I subsequently was not shortlisted for an interview. I have a proof in my email that clearly shows that the HR didn't bother to read through my cover letter - one I put in a lot of effort to write. "Owned in Finland, this company makes yearly firings to make their numbers. as a small company attempting to become a large one, policies and procedures are implemented that do not reflect the current state of the business. as a publicly traded company, corporate decisions often feel shortsighted and mystifying. Most of each spring and summer is spent wondering who will suddenly not be employed there anymore. after benefits and other compensation are calculated, I made less after working there for several years then when I hired on."

"I worked here for almost 9 yrs. It's a great place to work if you're fine with mediocrity and a lack of innovation. Management is grossly incompetent, very disorganized and doesn't seem to have a clue as to where they want to go. The pay and benefits (PTO aside) are below average as well. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was the incredible PTO compensation and overall work/life balance. Aside from this the place was lackluster. Conflicts within the organization are not handled fairly. "Small company trying to grow at any expense. They do get rid of people every year during the structural reorganization as a way to cut down expenses but then end up hiring again entry level staff at cheaper costs. Learning curve is interesting at the beginning, products are interesting and well made with some exceptions, but career advancement is virtually non existent. They keep the good and interesting jobs in Finland for the Finnish people. The culture is not good and most are mediocre, not a good place for smart people, they all quit once they realize not much is going on."

"Over my time at Vaisala, I have seen large departments decimated with no particular regard for the future functioning of the business. Entire business lines have been eliminated without considering contractual deliverables. The science is amazing, the work is important, and yet the company continues to shoot itself in its collective feet. I have seen close to 100 people depart over three years time out of a team of approximately 200. I don't know that I can recommend it or not, given that the management is in Finland and doesn't understand the Americas very well.Fascinating workClueless management"

Many shifts in management, with new managers hired into positions without any knowledge of the business with free rein to cut staff without having a good understanding of the positions being eliminated. "The division I worked in was sold a year after my termination. Also I was terminated for 'performance' after increasing perfomance across 5 contracts from 30-50% up to 80-100%, in a 14 month period. My termination included a 4 month severance package, which is unheard of in any industry, My followup research showed the position was subsequently supported by an on call contractor. My conclusion was that I increased performance to the point that service support on a daily basis was not profitable. I had great support the first three years and liked the position immensely. After having to relocate, I did not get the support I was verbally assured of and realize I should have gotten written confirmation. This would have placed myself and the company in better positions.Excellent PTO, 401K, Health, welness programsHigh management rotation, unreal expectations, over priced equipment"
